30-37 of 100 days of gold and black

Elissa Nesheim

I was away on holiday visiting my best friend from High School in Austin Texas.... so Ive been a bit lax in updating. I thought it might be more exciting as well if you are following here to see all of the work in a collection instead of separate blog posts for each. Also a bit faster for moi.

24/100- peach paper is so fine

Elissa Nesheim

Ahhhh I am loving these different shade of watercolor paper. I am using a handmade paper from Khadi, who are based in India. You can buy their papers online from different re-sellers or place a larger order with them through their site. Recently I saw that Case for Making out of San Francisco is making some collections of watercolor papers.

23/100- blue: an obsession

Elissa Nesheim

I mix almost all my paints, from the tube in a pan and on and on... I could tell you maybe what exactly this color was in the beginning? but its been mixed and managed so here is this blue piece.  And I am loving the contrast of the inky blacks with blue. Maybe I will move on soon? Also you will notice some deciduous trees here... its spring and all the trees here are budding out, well honestly they started about a month or more ago. Oh California... its Spring is really ever present.

22/100- 11x14 ohhhhh big work is too fun

Elissa Nesheim

I was feeling the abstract expressionist spirit with this one. I started with wet paint on a dry surface. Here I am using one of my Trekell watercolor panels. I really love the Arches paper that is on these surfaces. This is an intuitive painting, meaning I am not working from a photo but rather finding my way into the landscape as I go, seeing the hills and the cliffs emerge as I make marks on the paper. Making decisions as I go means taking a step back, letting thoughts and feelings percolate and also taking chances. I splatter paint when I feel like it, I move the brush in unexpected ways and I leave white spaces.

Happy Earth Day!

4x4 pink ink and black and gold on canvas. Watercolor always!

IMG_6567.jpg

I paint the landscape because it calls to me. I find its lines, valleys, dips and awesome beauty inspiring and fascinating. Every day I see something new, store it away and save it for a painting. Through my interpretations of nature, almost always without human influence, I convey my own perceptions. I call them real and imagined because they are painted through my personal lens. Just as your life affects how you treat someone, something, do your job, move through life, make decisions and so on... so does my curiosity, past experiences, experiementations, emotional connections affect my painting (which is my job and my passion).

I thank the goddess for each of you, following me and supporting me.

19/100: more inks

Yesterday I went with a friend up to University Art in San Jose. I found more of these wonderful Dr. PH Martins Watercolor inks. They are absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend them.

I am happily surprised to find myself keeping up with this years 100 day project challenge. It has been hard some days to get going but once I am creating (as usual) i find my happy peaceful place and go for it. There is no agenda or expectation. So I am just having fun creating little and big landscapes for you all. Or just me...

I plan on selling them here... but time has been short so I haven’t gotten that accomplished. I am hoping to soon though! I promise.e

11/100- Napthol Red- gold and black

Elissa Nesheim

there is a theme here lately with starting things and putting them aside hoping to finish them later. It is probably a sign I am pulling myself too many directions.

I painted this larger piece on some dark paper I have. I am hoping to finish it but it is quite different from anything else I am working on currently. If you are interested let me know. It is 12.5 inches x 17 inches on paper and will be priced at $375.00

2/100 - #100daysofgoldnblack #the100dayproject

Elissa Nesheim

I must admit I was more than a little hesitant to start another daily project. I have started 2 of these at another time without finishing, all honest cards on the table now. I do want to finish things I start and by making this project a bit more open ended than the last few I feel a little more at ease.

Today I was out and about taking my mom to an appointment so I brought a little kit of supplies along with me and painted this Gold and Black on Black paper.

1/100 - Day One: #the100dayproject #100daysofgoldnblack

Elissa Nesheim

Starting #the100dayproject today with a little trepidation. I have decided to do #100daysofgoldnblack for my project: Perimeters

Not too many- Mostly Gold & Black and just a touch of an accent color here and there... other than that, size, shape, and surface is open to all - medium is, of course, watercolor.

A few tools: Winsor & Newton brushes, Khadi Paper, Finetec Gold, Vine Black from Case for Making, and a dash of Veridian Green from QoR watercolors.

3x4 - Watercolor on Paper

Gold & Black & Viridian

This painting was inspired by a little trip back from up north to see my darling daughter back to school and fo course take in some spectacular redwood views.

-misty clouds, tall trees on taller mountains... a breath of sea washed over all of it.

See you tomorrow
