Archways, Portals and the year of Unfolding
Greetings friends, Merry Imbolc & St. Brigid’s Day!
The first of February here in Minneapolis, and with it brings a fresh blanket of fluffy snow and the half-way point between winter solstice and the spring equinox. As we enter a new time period by calendar, season, and stars, I am stretching my Taurean bones further and fully embracing my portal magic, incorporating more of the arched doorway shape.
Last year, I dove deeper into a fascination of the arched shape and if you viewed or collected work from my Archway Portal series you will recognize this shape reappearing. The framed archways are an elegant container for my landscapes and I love the feeling that you are holding a little window of a tranquil place in your home. They are a lovely transportation device for a moment’s respite. The arched shape of those frames gave way to a new iteration of this type of portal.
The portals are appearing inside the landscapes themselves, presenting themselves as a doorway or threshold to pass through into a different reality. They appear with outlined ribbon-like passages that seem temporary or movable, glowing arches that shine in the moonlight and light filled spaces where nature is absent.
